India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will soon finalise a policy that will allow state-owned telecommunications firms Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) to synergise operations without a merger. A committee has been established to oversee the policy decisions and institutional framework for the alliance between the two operators, which have been reporting losses. A
permanent committee has been set-up to prepare a plan for the implementation of a report that was published by an earlier committee, the Business Standard writes. Synergies with other firms (ITI, CDoT, TCIL) will also be explored.
